Izrael Iciek Ryżowy was born on August 23rd 1861 in Żuromin. His birth was reported on May 14th 1862 by his father, 27 years old Jankief Ryżowy and two witnesses. His mother was Chaja Sura nee Wielodróż, 23 years old. What is more, we see at the end a short explanation why Izrael Iciek’s birth was reported so late – because his father Jankief forgot to do it. In fact real reason was usually connected with tax matters. Jews were usually crafts or merchants and that is why they had to pay other taxes. The simplest way to avoid this was not to register child at all.
