Mordka Ryżowy was born on June 15th 1863 in Żuromin. His birth was reported by his father Jankief Lajb Ryżowy and two other witnesses on November 28th 1863. Jankief Lajb was described as 28 years old merchant living in Żuromin. Mordka’s mother was Chaja Sura from Abram’s. We have here patrimonial surname and this means her father’s name was Abram. It was typical in Jewish genealogy, the surname was created on the basis on father’s name. What is more, Sura also had second name – Chaja, not mentioned before:

Mordka Ryżowy died on October 3rd 1866 in Żuromin in house number 115. His death was reported by two witnesses on October 4th. Mordka’s parents were Mendel Jakub Ryżowy and Sura nee Wielodróż (Widodróż in other documents). There is also information that Mordka was 3 years and 4 months old, so that corresponds with his birth certificate from 1863. As you can see, his father has here two names Mendel Jakub not Jankief Lajb, so different than the ones mentioned in Mordka’s birth certificate. It confirms that he used all those names. We have to remember, that at that time Jews used Hebrew and Yiddish names and also they spoke Polish and sometimes Russian. This also affected the varieties of the names they used. We can be also sure that we are talking about the same family because of combination of 2 rare last names – Ryżowy and Wielodroż. It is almost impossible that there was another couple who used those names.
